NEWS AND NOTICES Women support empowerment principles Engineers Australia’s Women in Engineering National Committee has announced its support of the UN Women Empowerment Principles and encourages organisations in the engineering field “to take a lead and sign up to them”. The principles are:
Victorian Professional Engineer of the Year Victoria Division’s 2011 Professional Engineer and Young Professional Engineer awards were presented at Victoria Division’s Engineering Excellence Awards Dinner on 22 September. Peter Bowtell from Arup was named the 2011 Victorian Professional Engineer and Gavin Chater from GHD the 2011 Victorian Young Professional Engineer. Humanitarian course on water RedR Australia is running an orientation course on water, sanitation and hygiene on 17-23 October. Nominations sought for National Deputy President Engineers Australia is calling for nominations for the position of its National Deputy President for 2012. Bye-law 32.4.3 requires that the National Deputy President shall be an Honorary Fellow or Fellow of Engineers Australia who has served at least one term as a delegate to the National Congress. Nominations close at 5.00pm AEDST 14 October. Nomination forms may be downloaded from www.engineersaustralia.org.au/ndp2012. Voting for the National Deputy President will take place at the National Congress meeting, 23-24 November, by secret ballot using a preferential voting system. Highlighting your pro bono project As part of the Year of Humanitarian Engineering, Engineers Australia is investigating pro bono engineering projects. If your company has taken on, completed or even preliminarily looked into providing engineering services pro bono, Engineers Australia wants to hear about it. It will collate stories to share with the industry at the Humanitarian Engineering Conference in Melbourne on 30 Nov–2 Dec and beyond. Those sent in by mid-October will be in the running to be featured on exhibition posters, follow-up interviews and profiled in presentations.
