NEWS AND NOTICES Victorian transport proposals welcomed The submission to Infrastructure Australia by the Victorian government to support the development of strategic and integrated transport infrastructure systems has been welcomed by Engineers Australia. The president of Engineers Australia’s Victoria Division, Paul Collier, said: “The case the Victorian government has put forward for funding support for transport infrastructure is not only a vision for state-based issues, but is also presented in the context of integration with strategies for delivering a national economic benefit. “Engineers Australia’s 2010 infrastructure report cards laid the facts out about the condition and fitness for the future of many economic infrastructure components across Australia. “The Victorian report card included the imperatives of major changes to address the increasing stresses on road infrastructure and the critical changes needed to sort out the overall poor condition of the rail networks,” Collier said. Salary survey open – managers invited The 2011 Engineers Australia Salary and Benefits Survey, conducted online, is now open. It is directed at employers, rather than employees. Managers and HR officers are invited to participate. The annual survey collects detailed information across all disciplines and grades of engineering. The results will be published early next year. The 2010 edition was the largest in the survey’s history with almost 450 companies participating, representing more than 150,000 professional engineers. The nominated person who completes the survey will go in the draw to win a choice of the following:

history some of mankind's proudest moments have come at the hands of
its engineers. In the ancient world the Colossus at Rhodes, the
Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China and modern triumphs like the
Hoover Dam, the Space Shuttle and the Golden Gate Bridge all have the
power to awe us and make us feel proud to be human. But error is
inevitable in all human endeavours and when the undertakings are
engineering feats of enormous proportions the smallest mistakes may
have devastating consequences.Purchasing a DVD on its own will not incur a freight charge within Australia. All DVDs are Region 4 intended for sale to Australian territories only.
