NEWS AND NOTICES Doing more of what members want Engineers Australia is developing a new decision making framework to enable it to do more of the things members most want and need and less of the rest, according to acting chief executive Rupert Grayston. A recent member survey found that “we need to do more to meet member expectations in some areas”, he said. Returning from a visit of similar associations in the US, he said: “American associations are concluding that they need to break out of their traditions and become more responsive to changing member expectations and more innovative in their service delivery.” This was also a key theme at a recent association conference in Australia, he said. “Many associations have found that attempting to continually expand their list of activities in response to the growing diversity of their membership has not worked. Many are now refocusing on what they do best, and what their members most need and value.” A more detailed analysis appears in Grayston’s column in the September issue of Engineers Australia magazine.
