NEWS AND NOTICES Have your say on your professional needs Engineers Australia and Engineering Education Australia (EEA) are inviting engineers to have their say on what courses and events they would like to see offered in 2012 and 2013 for their continuing professional development. Light for Indian communities The Bushlight India project submitted by CAT Projects from Alice Springs has won the top accolade in the Northern Division’s 2011 Engineering Excellence Awards, announced last week in Darwin. CAT Projects has built on its previously successful remote Australian Bushlight endeavours to develop, design and construct two pioneering self-sustaining community power generation projects in two remote villages in India. The company is currently negotiating expansion of the system into other areas with representatives of the United Nations. New branch for engineers in oil & gas Queensland Division has established a new group for engineers involved in the oil & gas industry. The Queensland branch of the Oil & Gas Facilities and Pipeline Group (OGFPG) is the second after the first branch was set up in Western Australia in 2007. South Australia and Victoria are looking toward establishing their own branches. The OGFPG has been established in partnership with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). It aims to bring Engineers Australia, SPE and other professional engineering bodies together to develop, promote and support personal and professional development of engineers in this field. Search for new chief executive Engineers Australia is seeking to appoint an outstanding CEO who will provide inspiring leadership, and will help shape and implement Engineers Australia’s strategic vision and plans for the future. In addition to outstanding communication and team oriented skills, the successful candidate will have relevant qualifications and strong industry experience gained from a corporate environment, membership based organisation, consulting group or equivalent. Australian Engineering Week The 2011 Australian Engineering Week will run nationally on 1-7 August. The week is designed to demonstrate what engineering is all about and show how engineering plays a major part in everyday life. This year the focus will be on humanitarian engineering. The week is designed to increase the awareness and understanding of engineering in the general public. Each Engineers Australia Division will run its own program.
